OK, so I set up a blog called "Hemmingers" even though we don't all have that name anymore. I just thought it was a good opportunity to snag the blog title while it's available and it is the one name we all are associated with. Anyway...
Once everyone is signed up, lets set some official rules and get started in earnest. Here's a couple questions we can all 'opine' on before we set things in stone:
1. I think it would be motivating and helpful if we all posted DAILY with the amount of calories we consumed the previous day. Tracking intake is essential for real weight loss so we should all be getting the data anyway. Reporting it just insures that we all stay on top of it and can't get away with sneaking 10 spoonfulls of ice cream in the middle of the night without getting publicly shamed. What do we think about this idea?
2. We should each determine our goal calorie intake by putting our info into something like this:
http://www.freedieting.com/tools/calorie_calculator.htm
3. Progress will be tracked by % of weight lost (weigh-ins once a week?). No actual lbs will be required.
4. I think there should be a cash prize. What if we each chipped in $20? The winner would get at least $80, probably more if we can get some spouses on baord. It just seems more real when there's at least a little skin in the game. What say ye?
5. Who has other ideas about how this should operate?
I think we also need to track our exercise for the day or whenver you do it.
ReplyDeleteMe again. By the way "ECHO" is me...Amy.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure some of us don't want to do this but should we put "before" pictures on?
hmmmm... pictures...I'm not sure about that
ReplyDeleteI'd be ok with posting a before picture only after some significant progress became evident, but not right off the bat.
ReplyDeleteCounting calories daily for me will be a bit of a drag but I guess there has to be some kind of measure. If I can print off a pretty comprehensive list of foods and their calories, it wouldn't be so bad.
How do I change my posting name from Pat H?
I've started this thing but my first posting will have to be tomorrow after I find a calorie list.
ReplyDeleteBen,can you send me the link to the calorie thing to my work e-mail since my printer at home doesn't work? patricia.hemminger@bellinghamschools.org
clever name...mind if I report WW points instead of calories?
ReplyDeleteCheck these sites out:
This one has nutritional info for many restaurants...

the best bread I have found is "double the fiber bread" or something like that. it only has 70 calories per slice and of course tons of fiber.
also, when eating pasta based meals, lighten up on the pasta (use half of what you normally would) and add more veggies to make up for the loss of pasta.
my last thought...a quote from the last linked website: "rare is the person who is overweight because they ate too many fruits and vegetables." Now I will go practice what I'm preachin!
